Non-Destructive Testing of CFRP with Multi-Nested CSRR

This paper proposes an electromagnetic sensor for non-destructive testing (NDT) of Carbon fibre reinforced polymer(CFRP). The sensor is designed by etching multi-nested CSRR on the ground of microstrip transmission line to form a two-port sensor network. The multinested CSRR introduces a transmission notch which will shift by the disturbance of defects to the electromagnetic field near the surface of the sensor. The performance of the improved multinested CSRR sensor and the traditional CSRR sensor in Non-Destructive Testing of CFRP is compared by simulation. The results show that the improved sensor has higher sensitivity than the traditional CSRR sensor and the developed sensor has good performance in detecting internal air-hole of CFRP composites.
