100G TFDM Coherent PON Featuring Burst Signal Processing in Digital Subcarriers

We present a novel 100 Gb/s coherent time-and-frequency-division multiplexing (TFDM) PON with novel design of burst mode transmitting and receiving DSP process. Each of the TFDM digital subcarrier offers burst signal generation and reception and can be operated independently with great architectural flexibility. A double-correlation algorithm is employed for TFDM upstream burst preamble synchronization. The proposed schemes and DSP algorithms are verified and the system performance is successfully evaluated by experimental demonstration of a 100 Gb/s coherent PON architecture with 4×25G TFDM subcarriers over an optical distribution network (ODN) that consists of 50-km fiber transmission and a 1×32 passive power split.
