Design of Hand-Immune Handset Antenna based on Characteristic Mode Analysis

In this work, an approach to distinguish the efficient modes from inefficient modes is proposed for the handset antenna loaded with hand phantom. By analyzing the characteristic near field of the structure, the mode with weak E-field in the hand tissue indicate higher efficiency of the mode. The percentage of the E-field in the hand tissue is calculated at different planes. By exciting the efficient modes and suppressing the inefficient modes, antennas with higher radiation efficiency can be achieved.
