Theoretical Analysis on the Admittance Condition of the Broadband Phase-Modulated Metasurface

As it is difficult to design broadband phase-modulated metasurface (PMM), theoretical analysis on the admittance condition of the broadband PMMs is provided in this paper to reduce the difficulty of the design. According to the theoretical analysis, a broadband 1-bit PMM based on VO
2
is presented in this paper. The surface layer consists of a deformed cross, with a square VO
2
film filled at the connection of the cross. The reason why a VO
2
film can be used to realize reconfiguration of the structure is that the resistivity of VO
2
will change suddenly during phase transformation. The simulation results show that the designed PMM acquires a 1-bit phase shift within 180° ± 37° from 8.74 to 24.1GHz, with a relative bandwidth of 93.5%.
