Automated Audio Time Alignment for Multi-Microphone Setups: An Open-Source Approach

This study investigates audio time alignment in postproduction, examining the impact of phase shifts between signals from multiple microphones. We quantify these effects and evaluate if post-production temporal realignment can enhance audio quality. Two open-source tools were developed, using MATLAB and a real-time VST plugin in C++, to address comb filtering issues by detecting and realigning signal delays. A MUSHRA listening test provided qualitative feedback on audio preference and the effectiveness of temporal realignment.
