Thermal Simulation and Optimization of a Common-Mode Filter for a SiC Inverter

SiC MOSFET inverters show many benefits compared to silicon IGBT, mainly related to their ability to switch faster. On the other side, fast voltage and current swing are generating lots of harmonics that need to be filtered out in order to meet normative limitations. Slew rate of SiC devices can overstress electro-magnetic interference (EMI) filters, inducing extra losses. This paper analyzes the noise produced by an inverter based on SiC power devices and the effects this noise induces on thermal behavior of the input filter.
