Study of the Doubly-Fed Induction Generator's Electromagnetic Transient Properties During a Surge in Grid Voltage

The analysis of the electromagnetic transient characteristics of DFIGs under grid voltage swells requires an understanding of the voltage response, power output, rotor protection, and control strategy. By carefully analyzing these factors, engineers can design DFIG systems that are robust and reliable under varying grid conditions. Wind turbines uses Doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) because of their easy ability to adjust the rotor speed and improve the energy efficiency. However, during transient faults, DFIGs can negatively impact the stability of the system. A stator-flux oriented vector control strategy can be utilized for both the stator and rotor side converters to address this problem, and it has been demonstrated to increase the system's stability during transient faults. To learn more about the transient overshoots and ripples in DFIG-based wind turbines, a thorough simulation research was undertaken. Overall, the study provides valuable insights into the dynamic performance of DFIGs in wind turbines.
