Control of Indirect Matrix Converter Using an Optimized 2DOF-FOPID-FF Controller Under Unbalanced Grid Voltage Condition

The control of Indirect Matrix Converter (IMC) under unbalanced grid voltage conditions is necessary to ensure that the converter maintains a balanced output and operates at maximum efficiency. Therefore, this paper introduces a Two Degree of Freedom Fractional Order Proportional Integral Derivative Control (2DOF-FOPID) technique to operate the IMC under unbalanced voltage condition. The IMC is used to control the input power factor and obtain sinusoidal load currents. This converter is controlled by the proposed Enhanced Squirrel Search (ESS) algorithm based 2DOF-FOPID control with Fractional Filter (FF). The optimal parameter gains of the 2DOF-FOPID-FF control are then determined by using the ESS algorithm. The results show that the proposed control technique has improved transient response with less rise time (0.039 sec), settling time (0.206 sec), and no overshoot and the convergence of the algorithm is quick compared to the existing algorithms.
