Wearable Patch Antenna with Rectangular Slots and Defected Ground for Biomedical Applications

This paper presents the performances of a wearable microstrip patch antenna with partial ground structure for medical applications, which is works in ISM Band (2.4-2.55GHz). A substrate material which is FR-4 with a relative dielectric, ${E}_{\mathrm{r}}$ of 4, 4, loss tangent, of 0.02 and thickness, h of 1.5 mm has been selected in our antenna design. The patch and the ground consist of copper and have a height of 0.035 mm each. The antenna dimensions measure $60\times 53\mathrm{~mm}^{2}$. To achieve the upper resonant frequency of 2.48 GHz, some slots were incorporated into the radiating patch. The simulations of the proposed antenna demonstrate a reflection coefficient (S

) of −52.69 dB at 2.48 GHz, accompanied by a 10-dB bandwidth of 150 MHz and a gain of 2.22 dB. The calculation of the VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio) was also performed and the achieved value is 1.0112, which means that our antenna has a very good impedance matching.
