Machining Simulation Application Based on Improved Marching Cubes Algorithm

Cutting simulation is a key part of the machining simulation system, and the cutting algorithm directly affects the efficiency and accuracy of the simulation. Based on the Marching Cubes algorithm, a new cutting algorithm is proposed by modifying the voxel model. The median method is used to replace the linear interpolation method, reducing a large number of floating point operations and using the GPU for parallel computing. The simulation results show that the re-drawing process of the cutting surface based on the improved algorithm is more concise and can have higher cutting efficiency while ensuring cutting accuracy. However, as the algorithm requires different memory space depending on the discrete accuracy of the blank, when the discrete accuracy of the blank exceeds a certain level, it will increase the computational volume of the cutting calculation, which in turn reduces the efficiency of the cutting calculation. The improved cutting algorithm is more suitable for complex workpiece machining and can effectively improve the efficiency of the simulation.
