Power Losses Minimization for Cooperative Microgrids Distribution Systems

Cooperation among microgrids is regarded as an effective way to make up for the power imbalance and lessen reliance on the utility grid. However, the energy exchange between microgrids incurs power losses through the transmission lines. In this paper, the power loss reduction problem is examined for multi microgrids systems. The proposed method consists of searching the optimal power flow path while considering varying renewable energy generation and electricity demand patterns. Therefore, the studied problem has been formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem and solved using the fmincon algorithm. Furthermore, the suggested approach has been applied to a 34-bus distribution test network. In comparison to the genetic algorithm, the simulation results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in decreasing the power line losses as well as the grid dependency.
