Design of Efficient Booth Multiplier based Polyphase FIR Filters

VLSI circuits play a vital role in signal processing applications. This study discusses the design of several filter structures using Exact Radix-4 Booth Multiplier and Approximate Radix-4 Booth Multiplier. The filter structures considered in this work are Polyphase filter, Coefficient Symmetry filters, Modified Polyphase filters, Pipelined and Retiming structures. the difficulty involved in realization of the structures. Pipelining is done to ensure simultaneous implementation of multiple processes. Retiming is introduced to reposition the registers involved and reduce them in number without altering the input and output response of the circuit. Simulation of the filter to test its performance is done using Xilinx Vivado software. The output samples generated were plotted using Python in Spyder tool. Power and Area of the designs are determined using Genus tool in Cadence software using 90 nm technology. Timing analysis of Conventional Polyphase filter and corresponding pipelined circuits are performed using Altera Quartus tool software with Cyclone II family, device EP2C70F672C6.
