A Compact MIMO Antenna with Two Band-Notches for Mobile Devices

To use in the ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless system, a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is designed in this paper. Two notched frequency bands of the WLAN (5.1GHz-5.8GHz) and a part of the C-band (6.7GHz-7.1GHz) have been considered to be offset the interference. The antenna consists of two planar monopole elements with defective ground planes at the bottom. An E-plane symmetric miniaturized structure and T-shaped ground stubs are used to create current paths and achieve good isolation between two radiating elements. Two L-type slots are etched on the radiating patch to implement the WLAN and C-band notched. The size is optimized for the limited mounted space. This design is verified by experiment. Results show the antenna excellent matched with predicted performance, making it a promising choice for UWB MIMO systems.
