Performance Analysis and Control of Bi-Directional Converter-Inverter Interfaced Battery System for Electric Transportation

In this paper, an electric transportation system is considered where battery energy is charged from grid (for charging) or drive the AC motor load (discharging) through a bi-directional DC DC converter and Inverter. The Bi-directional DC- DC converter is controlled using PI based dual loop control technique. The single phase inverter is controlled using the proposed vector control technique. In the analysis of DC-DC converter control, it is found that the converter gain or the maximum stable voltage varies with the variation of the load resistance. This changes the conventional fixed gain method. This setup will be compatible for lower cost electric vehicles, preferably operating an induction motor or any other motor which can operate on a single phase AC supply. The complete model along with the proposed control technique is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. The obtained results are satisfactory and as per the expectation i.e. charging and discharging.
