Innovation in Public Transportation and Improving Accessibility for the Blind

Public transportation is extremely vital for the community involvement of a large number of people with vision impairments because it is convenient way of getting around for engaging in their education, employment, healthcare, and many other outreach programs. These people need to gather data about their surroundings as well as visual information at depots and terminus, includes as timetables, routes, and so on, in order to take public transportation safely, successfully, and independently. Unfortunately, getting on or off the right bus is a struggle for many blind or visually impaired passengers. These circumstances frequently lead individuals to rely on others to empower them in tasks near their homes, choose simpler tasks, or simply stay at home. Hence, our efforts have focused on developing a system that uses technology to empower those with visual impairments, enabling them to recognize the public transit system on their own. This system describes a ZigBee technology bus monitoring system that aims to facilitate movement and transport for blind people. The proposed system has two detection subsystems, one for blind people and one for buses. The blind passenger module detection subsystem will quickly identify the bus segment and details about the bus route via a voice message through the speaker. Additionally, the bus subsystem will identify every existing blind person in the neighborhood of the station, alerting the driver of the bus to the presence of blind passengers with acknowledgement button. The user will decide which bus he has to get in and acknowledge through a button so that the bus driver will be notified through an LCD display and voice message in the bus. Additionally, it consists vibrator which vibrates whenever the bus comes near to the user it helps a lot even for the deaf and dumb. This system outcome is to devise a simple guidance approach for blind people.
