8-14 GHz Ultra-wideband Negative Feedback MMIC Amplifier

This paper describes the design and measurement results of an ultra-wideband compact monolithic microwave amplifier. The amplifier uses a series inductor, resistor and capacitor as the feedback element, whose values are analyzed and optimized to achieve the desired response. The amplifier is designed using 150nm pseudomorphic high-electron mobility transistor process of WIN foundry and it fits in a compact size of 1.7mm x 1.5mm x 0.1mm. With DC power consumption of only 28mW, the developed amplifier features small signal gain of 10.5dB with gain response of ±1.2dB across the frequency band ranging from 8GHz to 14GHz, an output power of 9.44 dBm @10.5 GHz.
