An Automotive CAN Bus Safety System Based On Safety Level

The Control Area Network (CAN) bus is the most widely used internal control network in automobiles. With the development of networked vehicles and self-driving technology, the sealing nature of automotive internal control networks has gradually broken down, and its safety no longer meets the standard of today's auto industry. A proposed encryption authentication mechanism based on classification of security levels of electronic control units (ECUs) is intended to address the security defects of the common CAN bus. Using the CAN bus communication principle and communication data frame, this mechanism makes CAN bus capable of authentication and communication encryption. This can prevent replay attack, prevents fake commands from being injected, and reduces costs.
