Consequent-Pole Dual-Layer Axial Flux Magnetic Gear with Halbach Array

This paper aims to introduce a new structural design to increase the torque density in axial flux Magnetic Gears (MG). The proposed structure consists of an excitation winding and two rotor layers with consequent magnetic poles. The electromagnetic performance characteristic of the proposed dual-layer structure is analysed in Finite Element (FE) and compared against baseline single-layer structures. Simulation results indicate that the proposed solution enhances the torque density with the same Permanent Magnet (PM) volume and operating condition.
