Design and Development of Energy Efficient Outer Rotor Switched Reluctance Motor For Ceiling Fan

In this paper, the analysis, and design of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) for the ceiling fan with higher service value are presented. For efficient SRM ceiling fan motor design, a commercially available induction motor ceiling fan is used as a reference design. The critical parameters such as stator and rotor pole arc angles, number of turns per phase, motor stack length, air gap, the height of the stator and rotor poles, and stator and rotor back iron are subjected to a detailed parametric analysis for the parameter sensitivity information of SR motor design. Then critical motor parameters are selected for the optimized SR motor design using fractional factorial design of experiment (DOE) based Taguchi algorithm. The optimized design is focused on the optimal solution of the average torque, torque ripple, and efficiency using three Taguchi orthogonal arrays (TOA). The effectiveness of the Taguchi method-based DOE and the optimized design is verified by the 2D Finite element analysis (FEA).
