Compact E-plane Patch Antennas Using Decoupling Meander Slot Between Radiating Edges

A resonant compact meander line slot is etched on the ground plane of two E-plane closely-spaced patch antennas, which is a challenging task with the spacing of λ0/20 between the radiating edges. A fivefold meander line slot is used as a decoupling structure on the ground plane between the radiating edges so that the dimension does not exceed the patch width for the compact purpose. Such a simple decoupling structure improves the matching and isolation to be better than 19 dB in the 5.8 GHz band.
