Transient Response of Circuit Shape Right- and Left-Handed Waveguide

The circuit-shaped waveguides have been reported as a method for melting snow over a large area by using one power source. However there exist a problem in the previous study that the electromagnetic waves from the feeding point radiate symmetrically yields cancelation of the radiation or collide at half the circumference, resulting in a decrease in efficiency. To overcome the issue, this paper proposes to incorporate a left-handed waveguide to align the propagation direction of electromagnetic waves. The left-hand and right-hand waveguides are in the straight sections of the circuit, respectively. The transient response of the proposed right- and left-handed waveguide is shown by the electromagnetic field animation using the FDTD method. The analysis results show that the proposed left-hand and right-hand waveguides successfully achieve to make the electromagnetic waves within the waveguide travel in a circle in almost the same direction.
