60 GHz Perforated Dielectric Resonator Antenna Fed By Substrate Integrated Waveguide

This paper presents the design and study of a high gain and wideband perforated dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) fed by a low loss substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) feeding technology at the frequency range of 54–65 GHz. The applied perforated technique improves the bandwidth and the excitation of a higher order mode enhances the antenna gain. The designed antenna shows a peak gain of 8.6 dBi and 18.5% impedance bandwidth. Therefore, it is capable of covering multiple standards as well as have a single element high gain. The proposed DRA can be a good candidate for short-range wireless communications at millimeter wave bands.
