Experimental Characterization of Ferrite Material Embedded Microstrip Antenna

The experimental characterization of a square-shaped bulk ferrite material embedded microstrip antenna is presented. The ferrite material exploited for the characterization is Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) which has the geometric dimension of
$5\ \text{mm}\times 5\ \text{mm}\times 1\ \text{mm}$
. This proposed configuration is intended to maintain a low profile structure of the microstrip antenna while incorporating additional material in the host substrate to affect its performance. The fabricated ferrite material embedded microstrip antenna has the final dimensions of
$38\ \text{mm}\times 38\ \text{mm}\times 3.2\ \text{mm}$
. In comparison with the conventional microstrip antenna, the characterization result shows that the resonant frequency of ferrite material embedded microstrip antenna could be shifted while maintaining its radiation characteristics in elevation plane at the desired working frequency.
