Manipulation of SPPs Antenna's Radiation Pattern for Satellite and Space Communication Systems

Sufficient signal coverage in satellite and space communication systems (SSCS) play a vital role in meeting the growing demands for high data rates. One of the fundamental components in a satellite is an antenna that transmits and receives data according to its beam direction and signal coverage level. One satellite orbiting around the Earth is wirelessly connected to either other satellites in the space or receivers on the Earth that are located in fixed and different distances. Therefore, efficient signal coverage according to distance is of great importance. The signal coverage can be controlled by manipulation of the antenna's gain in the satellite. For this purpose, one-layer surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) antennas consisting of two parasitic elements are proposed in order to provide different signal coverage levels for the SSCS. The designed antennas can be used to reduce the system complexity due to their simple and cost-effective configurations. The designed antennas provide a simple solution for controlling radiated beam levels.
