Recovery of Missing Radar Returns with Compressive Sensing

Missing backscatter returns when using stepped-frequency radar are recovered using compressive sensing techniques. The recovered return is then used for target recognition. Compressive sensing-based signal reconstruction methods permit the recovery of the target's high range resolution profile, and consequently identifying the identity of unknow non-cooperative targets. The approach is first tested on synthetic targets, then on real commercial aircraft models with returns that could be contaminated with additive noise.
