Application of Optimization Algorithm in Process Control System

Process control applications, including the control of liquid levels in 3-tank systems, often employ PID controllers. However, determining the optimal PID controller parameters can be a challenging task. To address this issue, researchers have utilized evolutionary algorithms such as SCA (Sine Cosine Algorithm), GWO (Grey Wolf Optimization), and DE (Differential Evolution). The performance of each combination of three tanks is evaluated by obtaining their step responses using PID controllers. The study includes both interactive and non-interactive 3-tank liquid level controllers. The control parameters are tuned using three evolutionary methods, namely SCA, GWO, and DE. The results show that DE provides a better response compared to the other two methods.
