A Smooth Switching Scheme of Customer Edge Routers

At present, a number of customer edge (CE) routers used by communication operators cannot keep up with the business development, and urgently need to be replaced with newer and better devices. In practical applications, a pair of CE routers at the edge of the network usually use a hot-backup mechanism to provide redundancy. When replacing, it is necessary to replace both the hot-backup routers and minimize the impact on downstream services. This paper proposes a solution to smoothly replace Cisco brand CE routers with other brand routers. During the router replacement process, the private backup routing protocol used by Cisco routers is converted into a public protocol first to replace the two hot-backup routers one by one. Smoothness means that the proposed solution can improve the efficiency of engineering implementation without affecting downstream business.
