Design and Analysis of Multi-Output EMI Filter for Zoning in Complex Electromagnetic Environments of All Electric Aircraft

When applying the current boundary principle, different systems are decoupled from an Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) perspective. It defines individual Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) zones, where different boundary conditions apply. This paper proposes the design of a novel multi-output Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) filter focused for All Electric Aircraft (AEA). It combines individual devices into a single miniaturized solution. Thus, EMC compliance for Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) devices becomes less strict, not dependent on a single component but rather on a system. A simulated ideal case study is presented, where the interaction of Insertion Loss (IL) in a three-output EMI filter is described. This case study shows the behavior of the filter where each of the cutoff frequencies has been chosen to be a decade apart in the range of 1kHz to 1 MHz.
