Effect of Size Disorder on the Absorbing Properties of Metasurfaces

This paper presents a comprehensive investigation into the impact of uniform size disorder on the performance of absorbing metasurfaces. Initially, a periodic perfect absorbing metasurface is meticulously designed, demonstrating absorptivity levels approaching unity within the X-band. Subsequently, varying degrees of uniform size disorder are introduced to the periodic metasurface. Extensive numerical simulations are conducted to analyze the effects of disorder on absorption characteristics. The results indicate that as the degree of disorder increases, the absorption bandwidth expands while the absorption amplitude decreases and the phase mutation of the metasurface undergoes changes. These outcomes can be attributed to the intricate interplay of multiple resonant frequencies resulting from the size disorder within the fundamental unit. Additionally, we examined the variations in absorption bands of disordered metasurfaces under different incident angles. Consequently, our research contributes a novel approach for achieving broadband optimization utilizing metasurfaces.
