400 kHz Repetition Rate THz-TDS with 24 mW of Average Power Driven by a Compact Industrial Yb-Laser

Terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) has become a ubiquitous tool in many fields of science and technology. Higher THz average power is desired in a growing number of applications that would benefit from greater signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) and shorter measurement times, enabled by high repetition rates, while maintaining sufficient THz pulse energy. In the last few years, several results have been demonstrated in the direction of increasing the THz average power in different repetition rate regimes. For example, Kramer et al. [1] recently demonstrated 144 mW using Yb:YAG laser at 100 kHz, or Buldt et al. [2] demonstrated a two-color plasma source with 640 mW using a Yb-doped at 500 kHz. However so far, the use of compact and economic industrial-grade femtosecond lasers with flexible repetition rated of several hundreds of kHz has remained widely unexplored for THz generation, and is promising for widespread adoption of high repetition rate THz nonlinear spectroscopy.
