Ternary AgInS2 Quantum Dots: Synthesis and DNA Grafting for Biosensing Applications

Due to their unparalleled optical properties, quantum dots (QD) are considered to be the next generation of emitting material for numerous applications. For biomedical use, an especial interest is growing on low toxicity QD such as ternary AgInS2 chalcopyrite-type. Their synthesis has been realized through multiple processes, but their functionalization and use as a biosensor is yet to be demonstrated. Here we report the synthesis and characterization of such QD and their functionalization with single-strand DNA. Multiple grafting strategies have been developed to ensure the conservation of the DNA recognition capacity, and the ratio of DNA per QD has been quantified and improved. In our on-going study, we are further exhibiting these biological properties by building a QD-fluorophore nanohybrid and study the resultant Föster Resonance Energy Transfer processes.
