Effects of the external disturbances on rotational stability of the HTS magnetic bearings

The rotational characteristics of the entire HTS magnetic bearing system under influence of the external disturbances is studied. This is intended to apply the HTS magnetic bearing device as a superconducting flywheel for power storage in vehicles and other moving objects. The HTS magnetic bearing system consists of the rotor and the HTS. In this system, the rotor is used as the rotor and the HTS is used as the stator. The rotor levitates stably by the pinning effect of the HTS. The flux distribution of the rotor has large influence on stability. The yoke-equipped cylinder-type rotor is introduced. This rotor consists of the cylinder-type permanent magnet and the yoke. The flux from the top of the rotor interlinked the HTS by equipping the yoke. This increases the flux-use rate of the permanent magnet. And the stability of the rotor is increased.In this study, the stability of the rotating rotor is evaluated under vibration. At start of vibration, the rotor was affected by the vibration and the resonance frequency changed. However, even when vibration was applied, there was little effect of vibration on the rotational attenuation. Therefore, the rotor can be levitated stably under vibration.
