Development of a flexible sensor focusing on the excitation and search characteristics of planar coils

The cast iron is the part that engines are important and is used in various environment. The cast iron is produced in complex shapes. Cavity defects called shrinkage cavities occur inside cast iron. The cast iron product that there are multiple kinds of a shape and the defect have difficulty in examination for all quantity. In this research, a flexible electromagnetic non-destructive inspection technology corresponding to the complex shape of castings was proposed. By changing the shape of the detection coil from a solenoid shape to a planar shape, it is possible to perform inspections on any plane. In addition, results of comparison experiments between solenoidal and planar shapes have been reported.
