Influence of Split Ratio on Field Modulation Effect in Consequent-Pole Permanent Magnet Machine

This paper investigates the influence of split ratio on air-gap field modulation effect (AGFME) on consequent-pole permanent magnet (CPPM) machine. Because of the doubly sided opening slotting effect, the CPPM machine exhibits an abundant air-gap flux density working harmonics for torque production. To identify and quantify the torque contributions of the various air-gap field working harmonics, the Maxwell stress tensor method (MSTD) is employed to illustrate their contributed torque components and proportions. The simulated results show that the split ratio exhibits a great influence on AGFME on CPPM machine. Finally, a CPPM machine prototype is manufactured and tested to validate the finite element analysis.
