Far-Infrared Bragg Device

Terahertz (THz) science and photonics utilize the far-infrared electromagnetic spectrum within the approximate wavelength range of 30 μm to 3000 μm—corresponding to a frequency range of 0.1 THz to 10 THz [1]. These THz frequencies (formally known as the THz gap) were challenging to generate and detect before the advent of modern THz technologies, such as THz photoconductive antennas and electro-optic detectors, which are now widespread in THz devices. Advancement of THz science and photonics is being continued through on-going development of experimental THz devices. Various experimental THz device designs are leveraging additive manufacturing (i.e., three-dimensional printing technology) for fabrication with THz compatible materials and novel geometries [2]. In this paper, we summarize the frequency response of our recently-developed far-infrared Bragg device [3]—fabricated with additive manufacturing.
