A 1-Bit Dual Linearly Polarized Reconfigurable Reflectarray Element in X-Band

In this paper, a dual linearly polarized programmable reflectarray (PRA) element with 1-bit phase reconfigurability is proposed. The PRA element mainly comprises a simple L-shaped metal structure and two PIN diodes. By biasing the two PIN diodes, the 1-bit phase shift can be achieved for dual-linear polarizations. Besides, the insertion loss of the element is better than 2.5 dB from 8.5 GHz to 12 GHz, and the 1-bit phase shift keeps stable within 18
$0^{\circ}\pm 20^{\circ}$
from 8 GHz to 11.5 GHz. Additionally, the PRA element is demonstrated to have good angular stability. The proposed 1-bit dual linearly polarized PRA element features simple structures, wide bandwidth, and low power consumption, which have significant applications in radar and communication systems.
