An Efficient Design Method for Planer Inverted F-Shaped Antenna Based on Optimization of Genetic Algorithm

The planar inverted F-shaped antenna (PIFA) is a widely-used antenna due to its distinct features. However, the optimal design is tedious in general and many attempts could be needed in order to achieve an ideal design. To solve this problem, we propose an automatic iterative optimization platform for the PIFA based on a genetic algorithm coded with MATLAB, VBScript, and HFSS software. In the design of the iterative optimization, we take into account the characteristics and shortcomings of the genetic algorithm and incorporate the resonator theory to improve the efficiency, including a special scheme of initialization population and a pre-evaluation method. Based on the improvement, a dual-band PIFA working at 2.46-2.5 GHz and 4.8-5.0 GHz is designed, and the good efficiency has been demonstrated.
