A Van-Atta UWB Cross-Polar Chipless Tag to be Used as a Sensor

In this paper we report simulative and preliminary experimental results concerning a new kind of crack mouth opening displacement gauge based on dual polarized Van-Atta chipless tag made with an Ultra-Wide Band microstrip patch antenna. The specifically designed antenna and the technology used have made it possible to overcome some limits of usual sensor chipless tag as the low Radar Cross Section (RCS) and the narrow bandwidth. Results of numerical analysis demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed sensor while some preliminary measurements confirm the numerical results.
