Loss Reduction of Distribution Systems by Controlling Reactive Power in Low-Voltage Network- Case Study

Reactive power is one of the prominent problems in the distribution network that can cause several issues such as overloading system instruments as well as system losses. Although various solutions have been proposed to decrease reactive power in the network, the impact of reactive power by low-voltage (LV) customers is not considered as much as other methods. As a consequence, in this paper, distribution network loss reduction focusing on the LV network is considered. To reach this aim, different plans for installing capacitor banks in the LV network are proposed. These plans are evaluated via a real network using GIS and DIgSILENT software. A comparison between each plan and its impact on the network is illustrated and discussed and the best plan is also presented.
