Review: Pencil-on-Paper Electronics Devices Applications / Challenges

In recent years, the usage of paper for electronic components has increased dramatically. Perhaps the simplest and most straightforward method for creating graphitic circuitry without the use of solvents is drawing with a pencil on paper; this approach has attracted a remarkable amount of interest in the years since the discovery of graphene. The latest attempts to integrate pencil drawings in the literature in a number of diverse methods will be highlighted in this focus piece. These strategies make use of microfluidics, energy storage, sensors, and micro analytical tools. Pencil traces have been used to construct field effect transistors as well as active devices like piezo and chemo sensors. The pencil-on-paper method may be able to offer a practical substitute for the creation of lab-on-paper applications by properly integrating both the passive and active functionalities of the pencil-trace.
