Enhancing Security of Vehicle-To-Everything Communication (V2X) in AUTOSAR Architecture

Vehicular networks are becoming more popular every day. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) will benefit substantially from vehicular communication (VC) technologies. However, a requirement for deployment is the security and privacy of their consumers. European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) has introduced a security architecture that brings pseudonymity, confidentiality, authenticity, and integrity into Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) communications using Certificate Authorities (CAs) and identity management procedures. AUTOSAR has introduced an open interface architecture that can make different manufacturers cooperate with each other. For OEMs and Tier-l suppliers, AUTOSAR improves ECU software quality, reduces development costs, and avoids the re-development of similar ECU software components repeatedly for the same vehicular applications. AUTOSAR has supported the V2X standard produced by ETSI. This paper will discuss the merging between AUTOSAR implementation of the V2X security requirements and IEEE security standards and how authentication and integrity are applied to the messages between two nodes. and also how CAR-2-CAR consortium requirements are applied in the AUTOSAR platform.
