Backstepping Control of a Phase Shifted Full Bridge DC/DC Converter for EV Fast Chargers

This paper introduces a new and innovative control approach for the Phase Shifted Full Bridge (PSFB) converter, which is a key component of electric vehicle fast charging stations. The research first establishes a mathematical model of the isolated converter, followed by the development of a backstepping control method that effectively addresses the challenge of nonlinear control during charging. To demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed controller, a comparison with the conventional Proportional Integral (PI) control strategy is carried out. Moreover, simulation results under complex cases clearly illustrate the superior response time, robustness, and dynamic performance of the proposed control method.
