A Multi-Agent Approach for Solving the Power Distribution State Estimation in the Context of micro-PMUs

The integration of a considerable number of small distributed generation units has already started to disturb the design, construction and operation of power distributed networks. In such conditions, for the distribution system to withstand and accomplish the Power Quality (PQ) standard requirements, a rapid and coordinated control is crucial to be performed. For the control system to accomplish its objective, the power distribution system state has to be determined rapidly. The direct measurement and time synchronized of the complex voltage is done using the technology of micro-PMUs. The decreased cost for the acquisition and installation of micro-PMU, has made it a viable tool for providing data to the real time. Classically, when the number of PMUs ensure the network observability, the state estimation is computed by using a procedure named linear state estimation. In this paper, the technology of multi-agent system (MAS) is investigated for solving the state estimation problem. It was implemented in Matlab a power flow module who simulates measurements by adding stochastic errors. The complex values of voltage and currents are the send to the MAS for computing the state estimation. In order to evaluate the performances of the proposed MAS algorithm, a classic linear state estimation was implemented in parallel and the 2 solutions were then compared, both for each PMU in part, and also at a global level.
