Multidevice Dual Active Half Bridge DC-DC Converter with Zero-Input-Current-Ripple for EV Onboard Chargers Application

In this paper, a dual active half-bridge DC-DC converter (DAHB) with zero-input current ripple is presented. To enhance the quality of the current and overall power output from the battery side, a small auxiliary inductor is employed on the secondary side. The switch modules implemented in the circuit are multidevice, wherein two switches are arranged in parallel instead of a single switch. This arrangement enables the modules to withstand larger currents with reduced heat generation per switch. As a result, only four gate drivers are required for the switches, as opposed to the eight gate drivers required for each switch in a dual active full-bridge (DAFB) converter. The proposed converter finds potential applications in electric vehicles and their onboard chargers, particularly those operated with constant power. The circuit implementation is designed for an input voltage of 400 V and output voltage of 250V, with an operating frequency of 1 MHz, and power of 3.5kW.
