Mismatch Shaping for Binary-Coded DAC

Mismatch errors in digital-to-analog converters (DACs) can be shaped using various dynamic matching techniques such as data-weighted averaging. However, these techniques become exponentially complex for high-resolution DACs, since they often require conversion from binary coded signals to thermometer coded ones before applying such a scheme. Furthermore, after conversion, it requires N-stage element shuffling circuitry for an N-bit DAC. In this paper, we present a mismatch shaping scheme based on zero mean error encoding technique, which can be applied directly to binary coded signals, without the need for binary to thermometer decoding and element shuffling circuitry.
