Towards Smartphone Based Complete Blood Cell Estimation from Blood Smear Images

Blood Cell Counting plays a significant role in diagnosis and determining proper treatment because deviations from the standard value might point to severe diseases. Techniques for counting blood cells include both manual and automatic methods, each of which has inherent limitations. Hence, we propose a smartphone-based blood cell counting system which includes a deep learning algorithm for detecting blood cells and an mobile application to show the result. The smartphone Application will be developed using Flutter Framework and will be equipped with YOLOv5 algorithm as backend that will automatically determine the number of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets present on a blood slide smear.
