Circular Ring Radiator with Defected Ground Structure for UWB Applications

This paper presents a circular disc with a defected ground structure operating at the desired ultrawideband frequency range of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. The proposed antenna consists of circular patch with a heptagon slot as a radiator and a defected circular ground plane. To make the antenna work in the desirable frequency band, parametric studies are performed on a circular patch and ground plane. Various antenna characteristics, such as return loss, radiation pattern and gain are simulated using the Ansys HFSS 2015 software. It is observed that the proposed antenna performs better than other ground structures and is having return loss less than −10 dB over the specified frequency band. The proposed antenna is having the peak gain of 4.8 dB at 10 GHz.
