A Low-profile Wideband Triple layer Reflectarray Unit Cell for X-band Applications

The design and analysis of a wideband reflect array unit cell for X - band applications, is introduced in this study. The proposed unit cell is a three-layer structure with a simple square patch present in between the two square rings set apart by three identical substrates mounted on a ground plane. In order to create a model with a low profile, the unit cell's period is tuned to 0.245 x λ

mm with a resonant frequency of 10.2 GHz. The simulations were carried out using Ansoft High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) tool. The proposed cell is developed to obtain the improved bandwidth and better linear reflection phase range. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed reflect array unit cell achieves a good reflection phase and a 3-dB bandwidth of 40.97% extending from 8.17 to 12.38 GHz, operating in the X-band. A parametric analysis is performed on the patch size and thickness of the layers to ensure the performance and minimal volume of the cell. With a greater bandwidth obtained and exceptional characteristics, the suggested reflect array unit cell is best suited for satellite applications.
