Modified Pre-Processing Stage for Improving the Noise Immunity of the Pan-Tompkins Algorithm

A modified pre-processing stage required for implementing the Pan-Tompkins algorithm, is introduced in this paper. The modification is oriented to improve the performance of the structure in a heavily noisy environment. The implementation has been performed through the utilization of a curve-fitting based technique for approximating the fractional-order transfer function which represents the whole system. The provided experimental results, obtained using a Field Programmable Analog Array device, confirm the validity of the presented concept.
