Model Predictive Control for Salient Pole Offset Surface Inset Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

The salient pole offset surface inset permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPO-SIPMSM) can achieve maximum utilization of torque components by maximizing both the permanent magnet torque and reluctance torque at the same current phase angle. A maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control strategy is required to deal with the special torque-current phase angle characteristics. This paper introduces the basic principle of model predictive control (MPC) and builds an MPC-based MATLAB simulation control system for SPO-SIPMSM, which can achieve MTPA control and fully utilize its two torque components. The results of simulation demonstrate that the proposed control system based on the MPC method has high response accuracy and stability for SPO-SIPMSM under no load and under load.
